This is a full-time, three-year apprenticeship position*. The Electrician Apprentice will receive on-the-job training and will work under the guidance of experienced Electricians to learn the necessary skills to become a skilled Electrician. After successful completion of the apprenticeship, the Electrician is responsible for performing various duties as outlined below and other tasks as directed by the supervisor. This role is crucial for the proper operation of plant equipment and systems. Electricians utilize a variety of industry-specific tools, including but not limited to ammeters, voltmeters, thermal scanners, and cable testers, to ensure efficient and safe electrical operations. *Certifications and experience will be evaluated to determine the length of training or apprenticeship.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled and emergency work as directed by the supervisor to maintain all assigned equipment and components
- Document findings, deficiencies, and man-hours on work orders
- Maintain a clean and safe work area
- Adhere to all company work and safety rules
- Assist other crafts in accordance with union and management guidelines
- Receive on-the-job training from experienced personnel as per company guidelines
- Understand and apply blueprints and technical diagrams
- Inspect electrical components such as transformers and circuit breakers
- Identify and report electrical problems using testing devices
- Use hand and power tools effectively
- Comply with state and local building regulations
- Complete work orders on time and create records of materials used
- Set up and test computer systems, including running cables and connecting jacks and plugs
- Comply with all relevant safety protocols and standards, including OSHA regulations
Qualifications
- High school education or equivalent
- Valid Driver’s License
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication skills
- Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced electricians
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or certificate in a related field
- Valid Certified Electrician license
- Prior experience in facilities maintenance or a related field
- Knowledge of safety regulations and building codes
- Ongoing professional development or training in electrical systems and safety protocols
- Completed 3-4- year apprenticeship program
- Experience in PLC (Programmable Logic controller)
- Experience in VFD (Variable Frequency Drivers)
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to climb ladders and do overhead work
- Must be able to bend, squat, and complete tasks on the floor
- Must be able to walk and stand for prolonged periods
- Must be able to operate hand and power tools for extended periods
- Work involves both indoor and outdoor environments, potentially exposing the individual to various weather conditions
