The Material Handling Supervisor supervises and coordinates the activities of employees to ensure efficient receipt, storage, and distribution of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods. The Material Handling Supervisor is also responsible for ensuring inventory accuracy, meeting production schedules, and compliance with safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the receiving, storing, picking, and shipping of materials and finished products
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate a team of material handlers and warehouse associates
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with production planning to prevent shortages
  • Ensure accurate cycle counting and inventory reconciliation procedures
  • Coordinate with other production supervisors to prioritize material movement based on production schedules
  • Generate and analyze reports on inventory accuracy, productivity, and key performance indicators
  • Interact collaboratively with production, quality, purchasing, and shipping departments
  • Communicate material shortages or quality issues to appropriate stakeholders
  • Schedule work assignments and monitor productivity to meet operational goals
  • Utilize warehouse management systems (WMS) and ERP systems for inventory transactions
  • Ensure proper use of material handling equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, and conveyor systems
  • Oversee the proper handling of hazardous materials when applicable
  • Responsible for enforcing all safety protocols and OSHA regulations
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3-5 years of warehouse/material handling experience
  • 2+ years experience serving in a leadership role
  • Experience with material handling equipment and warehouse management systems
  • Knowledge of inventory management principles and lean manufacturing concepts
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree
  • 3+ years of direct leadership experience within the consumer packaged goods industry
  • Forklift certification and other equipment certifications
  • Experience with specific WMS systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, etc.)
  • Previous experience in a union manufacturing environment
